Intentionality is one of the keys to success. Too often we go through life just kind of going with the flow and letting life happen, then we wonder why we never get ahead. You need to start happening to your life instead of letting it happen to you. That is a harder path but in the end you will be in a much better place.
This goes hand in hand with the last article. Have you convinced yourself of any of these lies? Many of them are really about not taking responsibility. I can’t really change my circumstance because there are things that are beyond my control. Many times though these things are under our control, we just don’t want to make the choices required to do something about it.
If you have a mortgage interest rate of 4 or 5% or more or if you don’t have a fixed rate, it is worth looking at what opportunities you may have to refinance. Mortgage rates have risen a little but are still near historic lows. It is likely they will continue to rise in coming months. Now is a great time to lock in a low fixed rate.
After passing along your faith, I think one of the most important skills you can teach your child is how to handle money. Money affects so many areas of our lives, and yet so often we release our children into the world with little or no understanding of how money works.
I believe in the importance of having a plan. That’s really all a budget is. But what many people fail to realize is financial success really isn’t so much about the math as it is about behavior. Until we address our behavior the math will always be ineffective.
